 Precursor

The precursor was the activities started in DNB with an fintech initiative subsequently established as a separate company (DNB ID Solutions) and sold. Ronny was the CTO of this activity and left the company late 2019 subsequent to the takeover.

Start

The project was started by the Banks of Norway organized through their common infrastructure company BITS AS. The work was executed by representatives from several Banks. Two of the key players where Ronny and Brynjel who still are actively involved in the project.

The goal was to define requirement specifications suitable for on boarding for electronic identities at level high.

Public sector involvement

As public sector recognition and acceptance was recognized involvement from the Norwegian Digitization agency was sought and recuperated with enthusiasm.

Political Support

A key element was ensuring political support and this was raised to ministerial level where full support was granted.

Covid-19

As this virus appeared we where in the situation of having built a stable requirement specification suited for implementation guidance as well as reference implementations.

Based on this remote on boarding for the electronic identity run by the public sector was executed and implemented within 3 weeks. The goal was to cater for non Norwegian subjects entitled and in dire need for support by social services.

This was officially launched by the new minister in charge who expressed great satisfaction and belief on expansion in usin this technology for other purposes.

Going forward

  • We expect the first public sector by a bank to launch during the fall 2020.

  • We are working on getting this aligned with eidas on boarding.

  • We are seeking to have standardization efforts started in ISO.

  • We are seeking to get a component based approval for onvboarding technology in the EU.

  • Work on the next frontier after identification of digital verification.
